WASHINGTON (TNND) —Multiple former and current Anthropic researchers have been sounding the alarm bells about artificial intelligence, warning that the technology being developed can destroy humanity.

Former researcher at OpenAI, Jacob Coxon, said that the company is not acting responsibly with AI.

He alleged that both Open AI and Anthropicare “gambling with our lives.”

“I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic,” he wrote in a thread on the social media platform, X on Tuesday. “Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.”

In the thread, Coxon called on fellow researchers to be thoughtful of the AI future.

“If you are a lab researcher, I urge you to consider what the next few years will actually feel like,” he concluded. “Do you want to kick off a superintelligent RL run without a rigorous understanding of its mind? Should you put your head down because “it’s happening anyway” – or take this moment to call for different conditions?”

Alignment Science lead at Anthropic AI, Evan Hubinger said that researchers believe that AI could kill all humans.

“Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!” he wrote on X. “I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.”

Over 1,300 employees at different AI companies signed a letter earlier this year and asked the U.S. government to support an effort to slow down AI development
