The companies shaping today’s economy know that where talent lives, innovation and growth happen.

Businesses choose Maryland for the state’s deep roots in research, development, and commercialization, as well as its proximity to federal assets and accessible financial resources. But ask any CEO what they consider one of Maryland’s most valuable commodities, and the answer often comes down to its people.

    Talent companies are looking for

Maryland consistently ranks among the nation’s most educated states, with the highest concentration of professional and technical workers. Its universities, community colleges, apprenticeship programs and workforce initiatives create professionals ready for careers in today’s fastest growing industries, including life sciences, engineering, quantum computing, cybersecurity and AI.

For companies like Airgility in Prince George’s County, staying at the forefront of autonomy and AI requires attracting the best and brightest STEM talent. Its affiliation with a University of Maryland incubator has been crucial in finding the right people to develop its unmanned aerial systems.

“The state of Maryland makes it easier for companies to excel. We have such good talent flow from the universities, allowing us to pick the best and progress forward,” said Airgility CEO, Pramod Raheja.

For companies expanding in Maryland, that talent pipeline can translate directly into growth.

Just ask Cloudforce Founder and CEO, Husein Sharaf. The AI platform company announced itsexpansionat National Harbor in August 2026 after several years of exponential growth.

“The talent here in Maryland has definitely been a game changer for us,” stated Sharaf, who emphasized that this workforce availability has enabled the company to rapidly scale, doubling its headcount over the last two years.

“That kind of growth is only possible in an area where talent is not only available, but there are plenty of highly-skilled, career-ready individuals <a href="https://myappsplus.com/iphone-ultra-is-coming-heres-what-the-final-rumors-say/” title=”iPhone Ultra is coming, here’s what the final rumors say”>coming out of colleges like the University of Maryland, Prince George’s Community College, Bowie State, and other universities and colleges here in Maryland.”

Businesses like Cloudforce are investing in the next generation of Maryland talent through programs such as the Maryland Service Year Option Program and Lighthouse Industries and AI internship program. These partnerships give students hands-on experience with Cloudforce’s nebulaONE AI platform while helping the company build a pipeline of future employees.

For Cloudforce Help Desk Technician Manny Ogunsan, the Maryland Service Year Option helped introduce him to a career in technology at the company.

“By getting my foot in the door at Cloudforce through this pathway, I was able to discover where I wanted to be in the tech space,” said Ogunsan.

Strong life science workforce helps businesses scale

Forlife science companies like BC3 Technologies – a Baltimore-based, minority-owned medical technology company – Maryland’s thriving MedTech community has helped the business scale while also investing in talent and infrastructure.

“Maryland has been central to BC3’s success from the beginning,” said Wayne Grube, Jr., CEO and co-founder of BC3 Technologies. “From our roots as a Baltimore-based company to becoming part of Maryland’s thriving MedTech community, we’ve benefited from the talent, collaboration, and innovation that make this state a leader in life sciences.”

    Cyber talent runs deep

A strong workforce is even more valuable when it is surrounded by the companies, research institutions and industry leaders that can put that expertise to work.

Maryland has one of the nation’s deepest cybersecurity talent pools, having been ranked number one for cyber talent globally.

The state’scybersecurity strength is rooted in a unique concentration of federal agencies, research institutions, defense contractors and technology companies. Businesses can tap into expertise from organizations such as the National Security Agency, U.S. Cyber Command and NIST while recruiting from universities developing the next generation of cyber professionals.

Building on the state’s deep quantum expertise

Maryland is also building a workforce and industry base for one of the next frontiers: quantum technology.

As the home of the Capital of Quantum initiative, Maryland is investing $1 billion over the next several years to accelerate research, commercialization, and workforce development, creating one of the world’s most connected quantum ecosystems. Maryland has the highest concentration of quantum-ready talent on the East Coast, with 500+ active researchers and a deep pipeline of quantum graduates at leading programs at the University of Maryland, UMBC, Johns Hopkins University and Morgan State University.

A great place to build a business and a life

Business leaders are keenly aware that when recruiting, retaining, and competing for top talent, quality of life matters.

Professionals increasingly want careers in places where they can continue learning, raise families, enjoy a landscape that has everything from mountains and beaches to diverse cities, and be part of thriving communities. Maryland offers all of this, and more.

    It comes down to people

From cybersecurity and life sciences to quantum and AI, companies are choosing Maryland because they know the people who will solve tomorrow’s challenges are already here, building careers, lives and futures.

Talent lives in Maryland. And because of this, businesses thrive here.
