La. — As artificial intelligence reshapes the global job market, educators at Louisiana Tech University are adapting their classrooms to prepare students for the rapidly evolving workforce

Dr. Collin Wick, dean of the Louisiana Tech College of Engineering and Science, said the university is focusing on specialized programs that align with future technological needs.

“It’s instrumentation control systems engineering technology that really works to train students to how to control systems and more automation things that could work in a data center,” Wick said.

The university also offers programs in cyber engineering, computer science, and cyber infrastructure to protect businesses and organizations from external digital threats.

Dr.Wick encourages both students and teachers to concentrate on skills that will make an immediate impact in the workforce.

While some worry about the rise of automation, Jordan Savoie, a Louisiana Tech graduate students say they remain focused on developing adaptable, human-centered skills.

“The most important part for preparing for the workforce for the future, since you don’t know what the future is, is just to prepare you to be able to think critically, to be able to work on problems and find your own way through it,” Savoie said. “Of course, you try to give yourself, the students, a thorough introduction to theory and practice that can currently be seen in the workforce.”
