Tesla’s private Cybercab event has come and gone, and it was very different from the large, loud, live-streamed events the company usually puts on – an odd choice for the launch of a product CEO Elon Musk has spent years building towards.  

Regulators will review the process and data Tesla used to self-certify the vehicle.

The United States’ top automotive safety regulator has opened an investigation into Tesla’s decision to launch its new Cybercab on public roads with no steering wheel or pedals.

Tesla has officially launched the Cybercab robotaxi, nearly a couple of year since it unveiled the vehicle. On its website, the company has announced that it now offers Cybercab rides through its Robotaxi app on iOS and Android. Users can hail autonomous rides through the app in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando and Tampa, but…

Tesla published a form on Thursday for businesses interested in buying Cybercab fleets or providing infrastructure for its network, the latest sign that the company’s aspirations for its gold-hued autonomous vehicle stretch beyond being a robotaxi operator.
