Despite global iPad shipments dropping 27.5% year-over-year in the third calendar quarter, Apple maintained its lead in the tablet market, according to a new report released today. Here are the details.
Apple still tops the market, despite steep shipment drop
According to a new report Apple shipped 11,5 million iPads during Q3 2026, accounting for 36% of all shipments
Compared to Q3 2025, that was a 27.5% drop in shipments, and a 2.2 percentage-point decline in market share.
For context, the global tablet market saw a 23% year-over-year drop, with total shipments going from 41.8 million to 32.2 million units. Omdia noted this was the lowest level in nearly three years.
As for Apple’s competitors, Samsung remained in second place with 16.9% market share, followed by Lenovo with 12.7%, Xiaomi with 7.3%, and Huawei with 5.7%.

When it comes to shipment growth, Lenovo was the only company among the top five to post a positive result, up 11.9% year over year. Huawei saw the steepest decline at 43%, followed by Apple at 27.5%, Samsung at 21.7%, and Xiaomi at 10.6%.
Commenting on the results, Omdia Research Manager Himani Mukka said supply constraints are “limiting vendors’ ability to deliver meaningful specification upgrades, leaving fewer compelling differences between new models and their predecessors.”
“As a result,” she added, “consumers are increasingly expected to delay purchases until more substantial improvements become available.”
