    Facts checked 31 October 2026

Facts checked on 31 October 2026 against security write-ups of the fake TikTok Pro app and Google’s and the FTC’s help pages. We did not install or test any TikTok Pro file, and we did not find a current campaign report for the exact name, so the age of the evidence is stated in the text.

Is the TikTok Pro scam real, and is TikTok Pro safe?

TikTok Pro is not a product of TikTok. In the reports we read, Google Play has no app called TikTok Pro, and anything under that name that you are asked to install from a text, a chat message or a web page should be treated as hostile.

The name has been used for years. In 2020, when India banned TikTok along with dozens of other apps, a fake Android file called TikTok Pro was passed around by SMS and WhatsApp, and Indian police warned people not to open the links.

Security vendors then looked at the file. Lookout described it as toll fraud malware, which means software that quietly signs a phone up for paid services. K7 Labs listed several samples named Tiktok-Pro.apk and flagged them as trojans.

The question people now type, “is TikTok Pro safe”, has the same answer in every case we found: no. Part of the reason is simple. A real update of TikTok comes through the App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android, and never through a link in a message. A file that you have to install by hand has skipped every check those stores make.

This page also covers the cousins of the fake app. Scam messages offer a verified badge, a creator payout or a brand deal, and Malwarebytes describes such lures as a common way to get a TikTok login. They share one idea: offer something a creator wants, then ask for a password, a code or an install.

What the TikTok Pro scam message looks like

The scam works because it borrows trust from a known name and a believable moment. The 2020 wave arrived when a big app was banned in India, and people looked for a way back to it. The same trick fits any time when an app is in the news, restricted or changing.

A TikTok Pro offer promises more of something the user already likes:

    • no ads
    • no limits
    • new features
    • a badge

It comes from a friend’s hacked account, a number that looks local, or a comment under a video. The link looks short and harmless. The page then tells the reader to download a file, and it often explains how to switch on installs from unknown sources, which turns the phone’s own safety off for one app.

On iPhone this particular route does not work, because iOS does not install APK files and apps normally come from the App Store. iPhone users are mostly exposed to the login and code lures, and to apps that copy the TikTok name inside the App Store, which we cannot judge in advance. Check the publisher name before you install anything that uses a known brand.

Anyone can meet it: teenagers who use TikTok daily, creators who want a badge, and people who have never opened the app but own a phone number that a scammer has guessed.

How to tell the TikTok Pro scam message is fake

A few settings and habits stop nearly every version of this scam, old or new.

    • Keep Scan apps with Play Protect on in Google Play; Google says it is on by default and recommends it.
    • Keep Install unknown apps off for the browser, messengers and file managers.
    • Use a long, unique TikTok password with two step verification.
    • Install apps only from the App Store or Google Play and check the publisher name.
    • Talk to children and older relatives about badge, prize and payout messages.
    • Search the web for a TikTok Pro download.
    • Trust a message because it came from a friend; accounts get hacked.
    • Give an app Device admin, Accessibility or Notification access unless you know why it needs it.

What we checked for this guide, and what we could not

“TikTok Pro scam” is a name, not a web address, so there was no site for us to test and no URLhaus row to read. This guide rests on published security reports and on official help pages, and it says where those are old.

TikTok Pro scam · desk check · 31 October 2026

    • Evidence the fake app existedSeveral security and news reports from 2020 describe a fake TikTok Pro Android file spread by SMS and WhatsApp. Lookout and K7 Labs published their own entries for it.
    • Is the campaign running todayWe found no current report for the exact name TikTok Pro in our search. That is not proof that it stopped: lures like this return under new names and new links.
    • Badge and payout luresMalwarebytes wrote in August 2026 about TikTok phishing that offers a badge, a payout or a brand deal and sends people to fake login and verification pages.
    • What the app does in detailNot tested by us. We did not download or run any TikTok Pro file, so the behaviour listed here is what researchers reported, and some details differ between reports.
    • Your own messageWe cannot see the link or file you received. The steps below let you judge it yourself.

A fake app name and phishing lures, not a TikTok productTreat any TikTok Pro file or link as hostile. The evidence is reported by others and dates mostly from 2020, with similar lures described in 2026.

How the fake TikTok Pro app is reported to behave

The reports agree on the shape of it: a file you install by hand, a short fake moment of normal behaviour, and then quiet misuse of the phone. Details vary, so we label what is firm and what is not.

The file arrives as an APK, the install package format of Android. Because it is not from Google Play, Android asks you to allow installs from unknown sources for the app that opened it, usually the browser or a chat app. This permission is the first red flag. A genuine update never needs it.

After it is installed, reports say the app shows a notification or a message and then disappears, with its icon removed from the home screen. Hiding the icon makes the user think nothing happened and makes the app harder to find and uninstall.

Lookout classed it as toll fraud, a type of malware that subscribes the phone to premium services so that the owner pays on the phone bill. Other write-ups say it asks for access to the camera, gallery and microphone and steals social media logins. We could not confirm each of these from a technical analysis we read ourselves, so we list them as reported.

If you recognise this pattern on your phone, treat the phone as exposed until you have finished the steps below.

Stage What is reported How sure we are
Delivery SMS or WhatsApp link to an APK file Firm: several 2020 reports, including a police warning
Install Needs permission to install from unknown sources Firm: how any APK outside Google Play installs
After install Fake notification, then the app and its icon vanish Reported by more than one write-up
Misuse Toll fraud; stolen logins; access to camera and microphone Toll fraud and trojan labels are from vendors; the permissions are reported by news sites
Today No current campaign report for this exact name found Unknown

The TikTok Pro, verified badge and payout lures people also meet

Most people who search for this do not hold an APK. They got a message, a comment or a video that offers TikTok Pro, a blue badge or money, and they want to know whether it is real. The answer is no for all three, and the way to tell is the same.

Malwarebytes describes TikTok phishing that offers something a creator wants, such as a verified badge, a payout or a brand deal, and then sends the target to a fake login or verification page.

Once you type your name, password and the code TikTok sends you, the scammer has what is needed to log in as you. On a hacked account, scammers can post the same lure to your followers, which is how it spreads.

Typical wording: your account has been selected, your page is about to be deleted, confirm to keep it, or download TikTok Pro to unlock features. The pressure is the tell. A real service does not threaten deletion by text and does not ask for a password or a one time code in a message or on a page you reached from a link.

A badge cannot be bought from a third party, and a payout does not need your password. If an offer matters to you, open the official TikTok app yourself, look in its settings, and ignore the message.

What the message offers What it really is What to do
TikTok Pro or a premium version A fake app or a fake download page Do not install; the real app comes from the App Store or Google Play only
A verified badge A phishing lure that asks for login and code Ignore it; do not enter anything
A creator payout or brand deal A phishing lure, sometimes an advance fee scam Ignore it; never pay to get paid
Your account will be deleted Fear used to rush you Open the TikTok app yourself and check there
A friend asks you to vote or log in A hacked account spreading the lure Message the friend by another route

If you clicked the link or replied

Match your case below and do only that part first. Use another device, such as a computer or a friend’s phone, to change passwords if you installed an APK, because the phone itself may be watched.

    1. 1

Delete it. On an iPhone in the United States you can forward a scam text to 7726 first, as the FTC advises, and report the message to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Do not reply and do not tap the link.

    2. 2

You typed your TikTok password or code

From another device, open TikTok or its website, change the password, and turn on two step verification. Then change the same password anywhere else you used it. Check which devices are logged in and sign out of the ones you do not know.

    3. 3

Follow the Android plan below: uninstall the app, check Device admin apps, run Play Protect, switch off Install unknown apps, then change your passwords from another device. If the app has no icon, look in Settings > Apps for a name you do not know, or for TikTok Pro.

    4. 4

You gave card details or paid a fee

Call your bank at once using the number on your card, say it was a scam, and ask for the card to be blocked and the payment disputed. If you gave identity details, the FTC points US readers to IdentityTheft.gov for steps.

    5. 5

Your bill shows charges you did not choose

Call your mobile operator, say you may have a premium service you did not order, and ask them to block premium billing and dispute the charges. This matters because toll fraud was the label Lookout gave the app.

How to remove the TikTok Pro scam on Android and iPhone

There is no program called TikTok Pro to clean from an iPhone, and on Android it is a file you must find and remove.

Start with the case that fits you, and change passwords from another device.

How to tell a real TikTok update from a fake one

The real TikTok app updates through the store you got it from. If the offer comes through anything else, it is not an update.

Open the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android and search for TikTok. The official listing shows the publisher, and updates appear in the store’s own update list.

If you see a message that says a Pro version exists, that message is the scam, not the store. Inside the TikTok app, a real notice shows in the Inbox or in Settings, not in a text from a number you do not know.

Look at the sender too. A text from a long unknown number, a message from a friend who never writes to you, and a comment from a new account all fit the pattern. Look at the link: a download that ends in .apk is a file install, which is not how a store app arrives.

Finally, ask what the offer wants. Passwords, codes, card details, a small fee to release money, or permission to install from unknown sources are all signs of a scam.

    • Update TikTok only in the App Store or Google Play.
    • Open the TikTok app yourself to check a notice or a badge.
    • Forward scam texts to 7726 (SPAM) in the United States and report them to the FTC.
    • Tell the friend whose account sent the message that it may be hacked.
    • Tap a link that offers TikTok Pro, a badge or a payout.
    • Allow Install unknown apps for your browser or a chat app.
    • Type your password or a code on a page you reached from a message.
    • Pay a fee to receive a prize, badge or payout.

    Questions about TikTok Pro scam

    Is TikTok Pro a scam?

Yes, as far as we can find.TikTok Pro is not an official TikTok product, and Google Play listed no such app in the reports we read. Security researchers and news sites described a fake Android file called TikTok Pro that was spread by SMS and WhatsApp in 2020, and Lookout classed it as toll fraud malware.

Newer lures offer a badge or a payout instead. Do not install it, do not log in through a link, and use only the App Store or Google Play.

Is TikTok Pro safe to download?

No. A file that you download from a link or a website instead of an official store skips the checks that Google Play and the App Store make.

Reports about the fake TikTok Pro say it was a trojan, that it ran toll fraud and that it tried to steal logins. We did not test a file ourselves, so these are the findings of others. The safe choice is to avoid any download with that name.

What does the TikTok Pro app do to your phone?

According to reports, it asks to be installed from outside the store, shows a short fake notification, then hides its icon.Lookout called it toll fraud, which means it signs the phone up for paid services.

Other write-ups say it asks for camera, gallery and microphone access and steals social media logins. These reports are mostly from 2020 and details vary, so treat the whole list as possible, not certain.

Is TikTok Pro on Google Play or the App Store?

In the reports we read, no app called TikTok Pro was on Google Play, and the fake was passed around as an APK file.We cannot promise that no app with a similar name exists in a store today, because stores remove and add apps daily.

Check the publisher name and the number of reviews, and be careful with any app that uses TikTok’s name but is not

Is the TikTok verified badge or creator payout message real?

Treat it as a scam until you have checked inside the TikTok app yourself.Malwarebytes describes TikTok phishing that offers a badge, a payout or a brand deal and sends the person to a fake login or verification page.

A third party cannot sell you a badge, and a payout never needs your password or a code. Never pay a fee to receive a badge or a payout.

I tapped a TikTok Pro link. What should I do?

Close the page and do not type anything into it.Think about what happened. If it showed a login page and you typed your details, change your password from another device.

If it downloaded a file and you installed it, follow the Android steps on this page. If it only opened a page and asked for nothing, you most likely lost nothing, but delete the message and keep the phone updated.

How do I remove TikTok Pro from my phone?

On Android open Settings > Apps, find TikTok Pro or an app you do not recognise and choose Uninstall. If it is greyed out, switch it off in Device admin apps or use safe mode.

Then switch off Install unknown apps and run Play Protect. On iPhone there is no APK to remove; delete a copycat app with Remove App and check VPN & Device Management for profiles. Change your passwords from another device.

Can TikTok Pro steal my TikTok account?

It can, if you typed your login into the app or a page that came with it.Reports say the fake app aimed at social media logins, and the badge and payout lures use fake login pages.

With your password and the code TikTok sends you, a scammer can sign in as you. Change the password, turn on two step verification and check the logged in devices.

Do I need an antivirus or a TikTok Pro remover?

No special remover exists, and an offer for one that arrives by text or ad is likely another scam.Google Play Protect, which checks apps on Android, is free and built in.

Open the Play Store, your profile icon, Play Protect and run a scan. Removal on Android is mostly done by hand, as the steps on this page show.
