Smartwatches have gotten very good at collecting health and fitness data. The harder part is making all of that information useful.

According to IDC’s H1 2026 report, HUAWEI led the global wrist-worn device market with over 20% shipment share. The company has also maintained the top position in China since 2021 and has ranked first globally multiple times since 2024.

Enter this year’s HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Series.

For this review, most of the attention is on the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro. It combines a premium build with HUAWEI’s latest health and positioning technologies, alongside the promise of up to 21 days of battery life.

The base HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 shares much of the same design direction, but the Pro is where HUAWEI really puts its health and sports ambitions on display.

    Read on.

    Design and Construction

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro is still very much a traditional-looking premium sports watch.

Rather than trying to make it look like a piece of fitness equipment, HUAWEI went with an aerospace-grade titanium alloy case, a 3D nanocrystal ceramic bezel, and sapphire glass.

It also gets a super-hard metal coating on the case, along with IP69 dust resistance and a 5 ATM water-resistance rating. This combination gives the GT 7 Pro a good balance between something you can wear to work and something you wouldn’t mind taking outdoors.

The refined octagonal design also gives it a bit more character than the usual round smartwatch without becoming too aggressive. Although, the corners are a bit more rounded compared to previous iterations.

One of the more practical changes is the new EasyCross strap. Instead of leaving the excess strap sticking out, its tuck-under design keeps everything neatly underneath. It also makes the watch feel more secure on the wrist while keeping the overall profile cleaner.

It’s the kind of design that works equally well for a day at the office or a workout outdoors. And considering the GT 7 Pro is designed for running, cycling, hiking, golf, and other activities, that versatility makes sense.

    It’s definitely a sporty-looking watch.

    Display and Multimedia

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro gets a display that is designed to remain readable even when you’re outdoors.

It can reach up to 3,000 nits of brightness, which considerably helps when checking workout information under direct sunlight. That’s particularly useful for a watch that puts a lot of emphasis on outdoor activities and sports tracking.

The combination of a premium watch design and a bright display also means the GT 7 Pro doesn’t feel like something you only wear when exercising. It can comfortably blend into everyday use while still being practical when you’re out running, cycling, hiking, or playing sports.

    OS, Apps, and UI

Apart from the brand’s own ecosystem, the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Series works with both Android and iOS, making it accessible to users across different smartphone platforms.

Much of the GT 7 Pro’s functionality is tied to the HUAWEI Health app, where users can view their health information, workout data, insights, and recommendations.

The watch also supports GCash QR payments, adding another useful smartwatch function beyond notifications and health tracking.

But where the GT 7 Pro’s software experience becomes more interesting is in how it handles the sheer amount of information gathered from its sensors.

Rather than simply presenting users with pages of numbers, HUAWEI is increasingly trying to interpret that data and turn it into something more actionable for its end users.

We’ll get into that in the health and fitness sections.

    Smart Health Management Features

Accuracy is arguably the most important part of a fitness smartwatch. Having a huge list of metrics doesn’t mean much if the watch can’t reliably tell where you are, how far you’ve gone, or what’s happening with your body.

For health tracking, the GT 7 Pro uses HUAWEI TruSense, which combines its sensors with algorithms to monitor things like heart rate, blood oxygen, stress, sleep, and other physiological indicators.

The GT 7 Series is essentially trying to move beyond simply recording individual numbers and instead provide a more complete picture of what’s happening with our wellbeing.

Like its predecessors, the GT 7 Series also supports ECG and Pulse Wave Arrhythmia Analysis, along with arterial stiffness assessment. These are useful additions for people who want more detailed heart-health information from a device they can wear throughout the day.

Diving deeper into health assessments, HUAWEI has introduced both a Coronary Heart Disease Risk Study and a Diabetes Risk Study.

The goal isn’t to diagnose a condition from your wrist, but to use the information collected by the watch to assess potential risk and give users a reason to pay closer attention to their health.

The Diabetes Risk Study, for example, continuously collects data across different states such as sleep and rest over a monitoring period. The system then uses AI to analyze patterns from the collected signals and produce a risk assessment.

It’s important to clarify what that means.

The results can serve as a guide for monitoring our health, but the watch does not directly measure blood glucose, nor does a risk result mean that you have diabetes. It’s a risk-screening tool, and anyone with concerns should still consult a doctor and undergo proper medical testing.

The same principle applies to the Coronary Heart Disease Risk Study. The GT 7 Pro uses its ECG and other physiological information as part of the assessment, giving users another way to monitor potential cardiovascular concerns.

There’s also its On-Wrist Health Community, which extends the watch’s health-monitoring capabilities to family members.

The feature can surface health information and alerts through the HUAWEI Health app, allowing users to keep an eye on selected health metrics even when their family isn’t physically with them.

    Fitness and Workout Modes

The GT 7 Pro is equally ambitious when it comes to fitness tracking, with more than 100 sports modes covering everything from running and cycling to golf, skiing, diving, and even racket sports.

Running, for example, isn’t limited to pace and distance. The watch can provide metrics such as cadence, heart rate, running ability, training load, and other running-specific information through HUAWEI Health.

Cyclists get more specialized tools, including Intelligent Climbing Planning and Sharp Turn Alerts. Instead of simply recording a ride after the fact, the watch can provide information about elevation, gradients, climb progress, and even upcoming turns while riding.

On the positioning side, HUAWEI’s AI-XDR Positioning Algorithms combine GNSS data with multiple onboard sensors. The system is designed to maintain tracking through areas where satellite signals can become unreliable, including tunnels, signal-blocked environments, and dense urban areas.

It also has Smart Route Reconstruction, which estimates your route when the watch temporarily loses GPS signal.

That’s particularly useful for city runners in busy urban streets where GPS signals can bounce around everywhere. For hiking and trail running, where GPS reception can also become unreliable, the technology can help maintain a more continuous representation of our route.

The GT 7 Pro also expands into racket sports like pickleball, tennis, and badminton. Supported third-party apps can provide information such as exercise duration, racket swings, maximum swing speed, and forehand or backhand data.

It doesn’t necessarily mean every user will need all of these features. But for someone who regularly switches between different activities, having this much versatility means you don’t have to treat the watch as just a running watch one day and a general smartwatch the next.

    AI-Powered Sports and Health Insights

The more interesting shift with the GT 7 Pro is what HUAWEI does with all of that accumulated information.

A smartwatch can give us all the data and metrics we just talked about, but it still leaves the interpretation ultimately up to us. The GT 7 Pro increasingly tries to handle that next step.

One example is Physical Readiness, which combines information such as recovery, HRV, sleep, activity, emotional wellbeing, and other physiological signals into a readiness score. The idea is to give users a simpler indication of how prepared they are for activity.

There’s also AI Workout Analysis, which looks at workout performance, recovery status, and training load to provide personalized observations and recommendations. After consecutive training sessions, the system can take accumulated fatigue and previous performance into account when making these suggestions.

For runners, the AI-powered running plan goes a step further by taking the user’s target, fitness level, running ability, previous training, and physiological data into account. It can then build a mixture of easy, aerobic, long, tempo, and interval sessions and adjust the plan as performance and recovery change.

This is where the AI branding makes more sense.

The useful part isn’t simply that an algorithm is running somewhere in the background. It’s that the watch is attempting to turn a pile of health and workout measurements into a recommendation: train harder, recover, adjust the workload, or change how you’re approaching your goal.

That’s also the broader idea behind HUAWEI’s health insights and morning briefings. Instead of forcing us to constantly check individual statistics, the HUAWEI Health ecosystem tries to surface the information that matters at that particular point in time.

    Battery Life

Battery life remains one of the GT 7 Series’ biggest advantages.

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro is rated for up to 21 days of battery life under light-use conditions, while typical use is rated at up to 12 days. For more demanding activities, it’s rated for up to 44 hours of continuous cycling or 51 hours of trail running.

Obviously, actual battery life will depend on how you use the watch. Frequent GPS workouts, always-on display, calls, notifications, and health monitoring will all affect endurance.

But even with that caveat, the GT 7 Pro is designed around the idea that charging shouldn’t be something you have to think about every night.

That matters for a health-focused watch. If you’re wearing it overnight for sleep tracking and longer-term health assessments, having to remove it from your wrist every evening to charge it defeats the purpose.

    Conclusion

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro doesn’t feel like HUAWEI simply added another batch of sensors to an existing smartwatch.

The bigger change is how the different pieces work together. The GT 7 Pro can track your route, monitor your physiological data, measure workouts, assess certain health risks, and then use that accumulated information to provide insights and recommendations.

The Accurate part comes from technologies like AI-XDR positioning and TruSense. The Comprehensive side comes from the sheer range of sports modes and the deeper health and risk-management tools.

And the AI-Powered side is less about putting an AI label on everything and more about interpreting all of that collected data to make it more useful.

So, with its premium titanium-and-ceramic construction, sapphire glass, EasyCross strap, and up to 21 days of battery life, the GT 7 Pro makes a strong case as a smartwatch for people who want more than just notifications from their wrist.

It’s still a smartwatch, but HUAWEI is clearly positioning it as something closer to a long-term health and fitness companion, one that doesn’t just tell you what happened but increasingly tries to help you understand what it means.
