Google Messages is rolling out a new feature, but it’s not one its users seemingly clamor for. Instead, Messages will now text users about new features and app updates. This business chat feature is intended to highlight additions to the experience that some users might not notice.

This reminder channel might be useful to some users, but how do others feel about it? We ran a poll, and here are our readers’ thoughts.

    Andy Walker / Android Authority

We garnered over 1,800 votes on this poll, and the majority are not in favor of Google Messages’ business chat idea. 52.3% of respondents are against the “unnecessary bloat” it might entail.

Only 20.6% of voters consider it a “promising addition,” which certainly isn’t a meager figure.

Lastly, 27.1% of respondents are more forgiving and will give the feature the benefit of the doubt based on “how it’s implemented.”

Regardless of how popular or unpopular this business chat feature is, readers rank other features higher on the totem pole. These include additional font settings, contact categorization, and further education on RCS.

Commenter TopCop72 also made a rather poignant point:

Google Texts You but you can’t reply or give feedback. I remember back in the day before Google Messages, several texting apps had these same AI type messages being sent out about updates. Bloated the whole experience up. Unless its some life altering update, what’s the purpose?

What do you make of the new feature? Do you fear that Messages is becoming more like WhatsApp? Are there features you believe Google Messages is missing? Let us know in the comments below.
