In September, Sony released PS4 system software version 14.00. The patch notes for the PlayStation 4 update read, “We’ve improved system software performance and stability.”
The update improves system software performance and stability on PS4. Furthermore, rather than introducing new <a href="https://myappsplus.com/10-iphone-features-youll-want-to-try-now/” title=”10 iPhone features you’ll want to try now”>features, the update focuses on console stability.
The console’s previous patch update, 13.52, was released on June 16, 2026. This update included security fixes for the system software. Before that, version 13.50 was released on March 16, 2026, improving messaging and usability on some screens. On January 28, 2026, patch 13.04 was released, which also included security fixes.
Patch 14.00 does not include major changes for PlayStation 4 users. Apart from the brief patch note, Sony has not revealed more about the update. This means users would not immediately notice the changes once the update is installed.
The new PS4 system software update brings the console to version 14.000. As with previous patches, future updates would mainly focus on maintaining the system rather than introducing new functionality to the 2013 console.
PlayStation 4’s new patch was released alongside PS5’s patch version: 26.06-14.00.00. While the PS5 update added features such as a new Community Activity widget, voice chat speaker indicator, and default PSSR enhancements, the PS4 patch only includes base-level updates required to keep the console running.
Additionally, PS4 users can play their existing games on the console without installing the patch. However, some games may require the console to be updated to the latest system software. Although the number of games released for the 2013 console has decreased over the years, some new titles continue to receive PS4 versions.
