Update Android Auto: New Version Reportedly Deals With a Major Waze Headache

    Waze on Android Auto

The most recent Android Auto versions are reportedly fixing a bug that causes Waze to no longer display the journey information panel when navigation is enabled.

The bug was reported earlier this month, when users discovered that the dedicated card showing trip information, including the ETA, disappears on Android Auto. Some users looked into the issue and found that the panel reappears when an alert is displayed on the screen, only to go away one more time when the alert is removed.

While Google only asked for additional information to investigate the report, it looks like a fix has already been implemented in the most recent Android Auto builds.

Users explain that Waze is now working correctly after updating to the latest Android Auto build, so if you’re also encountering the same issue, make sure your device is up-to-date. No specifics have been offered on the version that these users installed, though the newest release published on the Google Play Store is Android Auto 17.7. If the update does not appear on your device, you can manually install it using the APK installer.

While the Waze bug has allegedly been fixed, users are also struggling with other features that mysteriously disappear from Android Auto.

Google Maps users recently reported that the colored lines representing real-time traffic no longer appear in their cars. The bug happens only on Android Auto, with traffic data showing correctly on mobile phones.

Others are struggling with the speedometer. Google added a speedometer in Google Maps on Android Auto earlier this year. However, users discovered that the speedometer was gone from their cars in early September. Google recently explained that the speedometer not appearing in some cars is actually a result of the feature not being broadly available just yet, as the ability to have a speedometer when navigation is not enabled is still rolling out.

Waze has been offering a speedometer since forever, and it appears on the screen, both on smartphones and Android Auto, at all times, regardless of whether a destination is enabled or not. The speedometer is displayed alongside speed limits, with audio and visual alerts whenever the vehicle reaches the speed limit.

Someone on Google’s forums explains that they managed to resolve the navigation information error by clearing the cache and data of the Waze app on their smartphone and installing the most recent Android Auto version. To do this, you must navigate to the settings screen on your phone, look for apps, click Waze, and delete the existing cache and data, although this could also remove previous trips and history from the app.

If you came across this bug and found a different fix or updating to the latest Android Auto version doesn’t bring back the missing info, leave a comment in the box after the jump.
