Companies in South Korea’s innovation clusters are seeking a foothold in Europe by tapping industrial demand from Italy’s leading global corporations

The INNOPOLIS Foundation said it held the Italian Industry x Korean Deeptech Partnering Day on the 11th at the D-Unicorn Lounge in the Daejeon Science Complex, matching cluster companies with the business areas and cooperation needs of major Italian corporations.

The event supported cluster companies with technologies applicable to key Italian industries, including energy, power, shipbuilding, urban infrastructure and utility software, in entering the European market.

Five Italian global corporations took part as prospective buyers: Eni, Enel, Fincantieri, A2A and Terranova Software.

Open innovation, technology and business managers from each company attended in person to discuss the potential for applying the Korean firms’ technologies and for business cooperation.

The foundation preselected 10 cluster companies with technologies matching the Italian firms’ business areas — including artificial intelligence-based infrastructure safety inspection and manufacturing process optimization, carbon capture, decomposition of highly toxic substances, wireless power transmission, water quality diagnostics, automated waste sorting and high-torque motors — and arranged one-on-one business meetings for each.

The 10 participating companies were Deep Inspection, FirstLab, WiPowerOne, Carbon Energy, Aple, Carbon Value, Rebio, Eflow, EightTech and Amberoad.

The meetings examined whether the Korean firms’ technologies could be applied at the Italian companies’ work sites and addressed cooperation prospects and follow-up tasks for each company.

Based on the demand identified at the event, the foundation plans to support follow-up talks between the companies and to help those with concrete prospects for technology application move on to local proof-of-concept projects, joint development and commercialization.

“The foundation will further expand its support so that global corporations and cluster companies can find common ground between technology and business, and move through demonstration and joint development to commercialization,” INNOPOLIS Foundation Chairman Jung Hee-kwon said.
