We’re still a few days out from the debut of Apple’s first iPhone foldable which, as many have expected for years, will have a crease-less display. According to a new report, Google’s Pixel 12 Pro Fold will be adopting the same technology as Apple’s foldable.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is, as we’ve mentioned, a perfectly fine foldable. But as brands such as Oppo, Honor, and most recently Samsung have gone all-in on crease-less displays, Google’s foldable is noticeably behind.

According to a new report, Google plans a major upgrade on the Pixel 12 Pro Fold, and they’re not the only ones. The Elec reports that Google, Oppo, and Vivo are all working with Samsung Display to adopt dual-UTG (ultra-thin glass) displays for their next-gen foldables. It’s the same tech apparently set to be used on Apple’s first iPhone foldable.

Samsung Display and partners would be building out the display and UTG assembly to the specs of each device. This sees one UTG layer above the display, with a second layer underneath and supporting the OLED panel. Samsung achieved its crease-less display using a special titanium plate under the OLED panel, while Oppo says it filled in the area of the crease using liquid 3D printing to create an even surface along with thicker glass.

The report mentions that Oppo and Vivo will both have releases in the first half of 2027, while Google’s next foldable will come in the second half – probably in August, as per the usual schedule.
