I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a huge fan of 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software firmware upgrade tool. It feels pointless downloading an executable on my PC and running it just to upgrade my controller, before deleting it from my PC again, as I won’t need it for months, if not years.
Well, 8BitDo has a (partial) solution: Ultimate Software Online. This online version of the app allows you to update some of your 8BitDo products straight from your browser. It also simplifies things for Linux users, as the Ultimate Software app currently only supports Windows.
It looks like, for the time being, the website only supports updating their newer controllers and doesn’t support any of their adapters yet either, but 8BitDo has confirmed we’ll see more products added over time. They also stressed that this is a beta product and that Windows users should continue to use the offline app.
