    • Sixty-nine percent of 1,400 IT leaders in a recentAlteryx reporton the state of IT ROI said their organization has had moderate or significant ROI from AI. However, 27% still said they only see the early signs of ROI.

    • Within the next two years, 93% are confident that agentic AI will deliver measurable ROI. Respondents said the fastest ROI comes from automated internal workflows and operational tasks (51%), automated knowledge work tasks (45%) and decision support (41%).

    • Despite IT leadership’s confidence in AI ROI, budgeting remains difficult. “AI consumption billing breaks [IT budgeting models] and it breaks [them] in ways that go well beyond a department asking IT to add ten more users to an existing application,” wrote Kevin Kieller inthis No Jitter article.

According to the report, the following AI investments have provided the clearest ROI:

    • 27% said workflow automation and autonomous agents

    • 16% said AI copilots or assistants

    • 12% said AI-powered cybersecurity

    • 11% said AI agents for desktop knowledge work

    • 9% said predictive analytics and forecasting models

    • 8% said AI-driven decision-support systems

Companies measured AI success through increased productivity (53%), reduced costs (45%) and revenue growth (39%). Companies also need to consider the cost of admin support, compliance, licensing, end-user training and ongoing monitoring when implementing AI,wrote Irwin Lazar, president and principal analyst, Metrigy, in a recent No Jitter article.

“Until the industry develops shared benchmarks for what a role’s AI consumption actually looks like, every AI budget is an educated guess and most organizations are not yet educated,” Kieller wrote.
