Well, we already knew Take-Two was actively taking legal action against folks leaking the biggest thing in gaming over the last few days, but, based on the latest reports, it has now officially filed several subpoenas with the Southern District Court of New York to secure user data to hunt down the leakers.

Looks like the leaked footage was most likely real.

More specifically Take-Two is looking to force Microsoft and Discord to deliver details on a series of online accounts connected to the sharing of leaked GTA VI. According to reports, this includes user data and associated data from OneDrive or Xbox accounts.

Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights…

Based on the fillings, both Microsoft and Discord have until September 4 to produce the goods:

…all internal Microsoft business records and investigative records associated with Microsoft’s internal investigation of the ‘cyberleek’ persona sufficient to identify the user(s), person(s) and/or entity/ies associated with that persona…all user accounts that are/were members communicating with the Discord server(s).

As noted by Kotaku, the “DarkViperAU editors’ server (discord.gg/darkviperau)” is also included in the legal documentation – that’s the popular GTA 5 streamer Matthew “Matt” Judge.

As of right, or at least to best of anyone’s knowledge, the person(s) directly involved with or responsible for leaking the never-before-seen footage from GTA VI is still unknown. But Take-Two is doing everything in its power to find out. This is clearly not just about taking the footage down anymore…someone is in some serious trouble here.
